About the project
This case study shares how I navigate through the challenges of bridging distancing adults with their parents. The goal of this project is to help the adults balance autonomy and family cohesion fostering open communication, respect for individual differences and defining boundaries for privacy and independence.
My Role
My role included designing the game from 0→1; conducting user research to uncover relationship challenges between young adults and their parents, developing gameplay mechanics like Sharing, Reflection, Scenario, and Action cards, prototyping the game, and testing it with users to refine and ensure its impact on fostering empathy and communication.
Key Impact
Positive Impact–Over 50 families reported improved communication and stronger relationships after engaging with the game.
Meaningful Conversations–37.5% of users experienced more meaningful discussions and felt better after playing with their parents.
Improved Communication–The game led to a 40% increase in constructive discussions among family members.
Adaptability–Nearly all users found the content and mechanics easily adaptable to their unique family dynamics.
